Jim and I decided that since school starts on Monday, that we'd take a couple days and get away by ourselves. I'm not sure where the summer went but it's pretty much gone.
We drove about 30 miles from our house and found a beautiful place. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such beauty. I love it here.
We camped along the North Fork of the Whiteriver and it was beautiful. We sat and watched this mother hawk and a baby. The baby hawk squawked and squawked for hours. We realized that the mother had left it in its nest and was sitting off in a tree and watching it. We couldn't figure out if the baby was hungry or what the problem was.
Then all of a sudden, we saw the baby bird take off all by itself. We think it must have been his first flight. It was so cool to watch. He finally left the nest and quit his squawking. It kind of reminded me of being a mother and listening to a kid "squawk" about not wanting to do something. Finally, after the baby tries it, he quits squawking and realizes it wasn't that big of a deal all along.
We camped right next to the river, listening to the gurgling and reading and relaxing and just enjoying ourselves.

The water was awesome. So cool and just nice enough to wade around in.

Hey, what's that floating in the water? ??? OH, it's JIM!!!!

I am so jealous! Jon & I are trying to figure out when and how we can get outta here for a short camping trip, pathetic, huh? I'm glad that the two of you could do it and that you shared it with us. We'll take a vicarious camp out if we have to!
The birds you saw are so NEAT! What you saw was an Osprey. They are illegal to have as falconry birds, but even if they were legal you wouldn't want one as they ALWAYS carry their prey. Once they carry them and eat the prey you will never get your bird back. The baby bird that you saw is in a phase called Branching, or you could just say that you saw a brancher. Simply put it means that you saw a baby bird learning how to fly, and that it is still in the protective care of it's parents. You can bet that the other parent was in eyes view solely watching YOUR movements. Birds of prey are so interesting, and I can rattle on and on about falconry terms and the birds mannerisms. I guess that's what I get for having falcons and hawks sitting 5 feet from me in my home. . . . . AWESOME STORY! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
Looks like you guys had such a good time! I'm jealous that I couldn't go. I'm sure that you guys enjoyed your time up there by yourselves. Some nice quiet time....I'm sure it was needed.
Brody has a temperature of 103.5. I can't get it to go down. I called Stuart and he said to try Motrin. So we'll see if that helps. It could be a long night. Poor little guy.
Anyway, love you guys. Glad you had fun. And I was never one of your "squaking" kids...ha ha ha.
It looks so beautiful! Are you guys not going to camp with us over Labor Day Weekend? It won't be the same without you.
Jim, you crack me up! Loved your comment!!!
Beautiful pictures! I loved the one of you by the creek!
