Life flashing before my eyes

Needless to say, we did some more work on the house Saturday. This is my LAST post until everything is done. I promise. We are hoping to finish this week. No promises there but that's what we're hoping for anyway.
We borrowed an extension ladder and I got up on it to paint the top of the celestory, which is probably 20 feet up from the ground. SCARY! Wow, I'm such a chicken. The hall is so narrow that I had to climb up the step ladder and then jump over to the extension ladder to even get on it. You'll see from the pictures why. It was just so close to the wall that there was no way to get on it without going up a few steps on the step ladder. I don't think the pictures do justice to how high I actually was off the ground. It was really hard because there was no place to set my paint pan so I had to keep climbing up and down.

The first picture you can see the bottom of the ladder and the tops of the hallway doors. I'm above that. See my feet in the next picture.

Third picture, I'm still not high enough to reach the ceiling. I finally ended up going all the way to the top and you can see from the expression on my face, I was concentrating real hard so I didn't slip and fall clear to the floor. I'm such a chicken of heights. I'm proud that I even was able to do this job. ;o)

I finally had to take two more steps up after the last picture was taken to reach the very top. I tried my hardest to reach it from the level I was but my arm just was not long enough, dang it.

Anyway, it's finished and I'm NEVER climbing back up there again!!! My arm is so sore today that I can hardly lift it and everytime I use my mouse or lift my arm to do my hair or put makeup on, my hand goes completely numb. I think I pinched a nerve in my neck or something because it sure has been painful. That's the price of progress????? Guess so.

I kind of would like to see the shot of when Jim was painting up there. How is with heights!!

Okay my hats off to you! I'm terrified of heights and don't go more than 3 steps up a ladder. I'm afraid it would never have been painted if it were up to me. Crystal broke down and rented a scissor lift for her front room. She thought, "OK I can help Spence with this", well she jumped ship when it started to wobble and shake so Spencer did all the high parts. I just cheered them on from the side lines.:) I'll have her post pictures. Good luck and can't wait to see the end results.

I think your life does flash before your eyes when you are that high up. I would have never of let go of the ladder! I would not have jumped from one ladder to the next you are a brave woman! I think it looks really good! Looks like you had so much fun on the beach!

It will be worth it in the end if you make it. :o) When I am up that high, I usually pour some paint into a cup so that I don't have to keep going up and down the ladder and don't have to hold the heavy paint can. Just some advice that is too little and too late. :o)

I did put some paint in a smaller container but for the parts where I had to use the paint roller, that was no help to me.

Tamra, my friend, be caredful! Go see my brother and get your arm to feeling better! It's funny the strength we have to do the things we do... I remember painting all of our houses and thought this last one would kill me.. My shoulder hurt for a year..but has since healed and never got the surgery thought maybe I would have to..but was avoiding.

You are getting crazy in your old age. Wish Trace was there to help...cause he's not afraid of height AT ALL! He climbs 35 foot poles in the wind. He's crazy!
Can't wait to see it. Maybe at Christmas....

Yeah, I remember Trace going out on our deck when all that was there were the joists and he was walking all over them back and forth everywhere. I about lost it. Then I looked out there and the dog had followed him out and was straddling the joists and shaking like a leaf and didn't know how to get back in the house. Thank goodness you rescued him!!!!

Oh and I just machine quilted it. I layed the front down, then sprayed it with this washable bonding spray, and then put the batting on, and then put the back on. The sticky spray stuff keeps it all together so you don't have to use pins. It's amazing. Then I just stitched "in the ditch"...meaning in the seam of each line. It turns out really cute. Plus, it took me like 20 minutes to cut and sew it all together. I found the instructions on a website...so it wasn't all me. I just came up with the idea of using all boy kind of material.
I'll take a picture of it when I get it all finished and washed. It will look a lot better.

That is the ladies website that I got my quilt idea from. She has some cute ideas on there.

I like painting, and coming up with new ideas for how to paint, but after all my stripes, I am done for a little bit! Until we find out what we are having, then I'm sure I'll be back in the mood to paint!

Your house is looking good! All your hard work can certainly be seen! AWESOME job!!

i remember this one time i climbed a 55 foot pole then had to unbelt to go up and over a cross arm. its kinda scary when all that is holding you up is your hands and two little spikes.

scissor Lift can be motorized by gas or electrical energy. Diesel or gas-powered scissor lifts – often called “rough terrain scissor lifts” – are improved for external use, but can’t be used indoors.
