Fast trip to Texas

On Friday afternoon, we left to go to Texas to visit my mom and dad. What a fast trip that was. We got there about 1 a.m. and got a motel room so we wouldn't have to scare my mom if we knocked on her door at that time of night. Then we went the next morning and surprised her. And she was surprised! We took her and went to visit my daddy in the nursing home. He is doing OK, but it sure is sad to see him there. I tried to keep him talking about things when he was growing up and then he could carry on a pretty good conversation. If you try to talk about the here and now, he gets so confused and asks the same things over and over. But his long-term memory is pretty good, so we had a good visit. Here's a couple pictures I took while we were there.

I love my mom and dad. They have been good to me my whole life. It's sad to see them get old and have such health problems. But it was so good to get to visit them for a little bit. We got to go eat out with Gary and Sharon, too, but my camera stayed in my purse the whole time. I get so aggravated at myself sometimes! Dinner was delicious though and since it was Jim's birthday, we enjoyed celebrating with them!

What a NICE surprise for your parents. I feel bad for you because it is so hard to see your parents struggle. Dad's in our mind are the strong, healthy provider and mom's are just always there for us. It's hard to see the changes that's for sure. Again I'm so glad you got to go visit!

I remember your parents so well. We got the biggest kick out of all the fun stuff he was making out aluminum cans.

If you want a wonderful treasure, take a recorder next time you visit and record your dad's stories, in his voice. I love the ones that I have made of some of our relatives. Unfortunately, I didn't think to make them with my own parents.

What a fast trip! I know your parents were probably thrilled that you made such a long trip just to say hello. I agree with my mom about our visions of our dads. It's hard when we them as anything but invincible.
