I guess I could have called this post "Yard Work" because that's what it is. We decided to plant a garden in the small area where we usually put grass in the backyard. We have a hard time growing much of anything back there because there is too much shade except for where we've always tried to have a little grass. Anyway, so Jim shoveled up what was left of the grass (there wasn't much) and has it almost ready to plant. It should be ready to go by June 1. That's the official planting date here in Show Low. If we plant any earlier, it is susceptible to being frozen, so we'll wait patiently.
While Jim was doing that, I decided to rake up some pine needles. Wow, I'm probably only halfway through with that side of the yard. I finally quit when my back gave out. I raked up and bagged bunches of them. Plus I stacked (or re-stacked) this little row of rocks. They were mostly covered with pine needles when I started. Don't ask me where all the rocks come from. I add more to the stack every year it seems like. If I didn't know better, I'd think we were growing rocks rather than a garden at times! Anyway, we're making headway and things are looking better. We had some nice weather here on Saturday. Beautiful for getting outside and having fun in the yard!
Happy gardening, everyone.
